A nine day festival dedicated to the Veena was inaugurated in Chennai on Sep. 11.
New Delhi based Veena Foundation and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, have organised 'Veena Navarathri’, a concert series featuring eminent artists for nine days in Chennai, in association with the local arts promoters and organisations.
On the inaugural day, senior veena artiste Padmavathi Ananthagopalan was felicitated by Justice Prabha Sridevan, Madras High Court Judge and R. Krishnaswamy, secretary, Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai.
She performed a concert that evening, accompanied by Pathri sathish Kumar on the mridangam and S. Karthick on the ghatam.
Veena concerts are scheduled at different venues in the city during the fest.
On Sep. 13, concerts by S. R. Padmavathy at 5.15 pm followed by Suma Sudhindra at 6.45 pm will b eheld in association with Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Chennai.
On Sep. 14, S. Srinivasan will present a veena concert at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai at 5.15 pm followed by a concert by Revathy Krishna at 6.45pm. The concerts are hosted in association with Kartik Fine Arts, Chennai
On Sep. 19 concerts by Jayanthi Kumaresh and Rajeswari Padmanabhan at Narada Gana Sabha, Alwarpet, Chennai.
Concerts by B. Kannan and S. P. Ramh are also on the schedule
