Tillanas are compositions with melody and rhythm. The rasikas of music as well as dance enjoy the mix of 'nada' (music) and the 'laya' (rhythm).

Violin maestro Lalgudi Jayaraman had released an exclusive audio cassette of Tillanas composed by him, titled Dance of Sound, way back in the 1980's. This compositions were rendered with orchestration and rasikas still look for the album on the shelves!

Now, violinist A. Kanyakumari and her disciple V. Sanjeev have presented a collection of nine Tillnas composed by different musicians on a new audio CD released recently.

Titled 'Dancing Melodies - Tillanas', the CD is produced by Shanmukhapriya, the cultural wing of Swamy Publishers, Chennai and released by SaReGaMa.

The Tillanas presented in this album are compositions of flutist N. Ramani, Maharajapuram Santhanam, Tanjore Quartette, Sulochana Pattabhiraman, Thanjavur S. Kalyanaraman, M. Balamurali Krishna, Ramanathapuram Srinivasa Iyengar and by A. Kanyakumari.
