Awards for Amrutha and Prasanna
 
Young Carnatic vocalists are awarded the Hamsadhwani Ramachandran Sathabhishekam Endowment award every year in Chennai. The Chennai based music organisation Hamsadhwani instituted the Hamsadhwani Ramachandran Sathabhishekam endowment award, in 2004, when R. Ramachandran, the secretary of the sabha celebrated his 80th birthday.This year the award went to Prasanna Venkatraman and Amrutha Venkatesh, two young vocalists.

Prasanna Venkatraman had a solid foundation in music from noted musician - guru T. R. Balamani in Mumbai. Prasanna, who has an engineering degree is now pursuing M. Tech at IIT - Madras. He is now training under senior vocalist T. K. Govinda Rao and Sanjay Subramanyan.

Prasanna has won an award at the 'Spirit of Youth festival' in 2002 and the Gokulashtami award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. He says. "This award has come at the right time in my career, encouraging me to go further in the field."

Amrutha Venkatesh shuttles between Chennai and Bangalore, where she is based. She is a student of Bangalore based senior vocalist M. T. Selvanarayana. Amrutha also learns from Chennai based vocalist Charumathi Ramachandran. She is also a recipient of 'Spirit of Youth' award.

Amrutha received the All India Radio 'B' grade through the competition, directly. She is pursuing a degree course in science at M. E. S. College, Bangalore.

(Note - The Spirit of Youth fest is an annual event held in the latter half of the year by the The Music Academy, Chennai. By an informal selection, the Academy invites young vocalists, instrumentalists, percussionists and dancers to the fest and the best among them receive awards.
