What an incredible loss indeed. I grew up in Coimbatore in the seventies and the eighties, and have such fond memories of listening to some of Carnatic's finest in such cosy and intimate settings at Raga Sudha, the brainchild of SVK. Such a patron of Carnatic music, the world would be hard pressed to come by. May his soul rest in peace, and my condolences to his family, especially his son who was my classmate in school back in the days.

I am indeed shocked over the demise of Shri. S.V. Krishnan - popularly known as SVK. I had been a great fan of him. We had the pleasure of inviting him as chief guest for our Kalpakkam Sangeeth Sabha's annual celeberation last year. Being an young organiser of music concerts, I used to get Shri. SVK's advice and suggestions in organising concerts. In fact, I used to get young talented musicians' addresses from him for our programmes. It has been my dream to construct a home like that of SVK at Mylapore....
If it materialises I will name the music sabha at the ground floor as "SVK Hall" - this is the only way I can pay my homage to SVK mama. May his soul rest in peace.

I would like to share a memory regarding Sri S.V. Krishnan Mama. I live in Toronto, Canada, and I have been learning Carnatic music for the last 11 years. In July of 2005, I gave a kutcheri in the Sri Rama Bhakta Jana Samaj Sabha in Chennai. Sri SV Krishnan Mama attended this concert and his comments at the end of it were motivating and encouraging for me, as a young concert performer. He had positive remarks to make about my Vachaspathi and Ramapriya renditions. He was truly an inspiration to music lovers and performers everywhere, and his presence will be greatly missed. Our family’s heartfelt condolences go to the family of Sri SV Krishnan Mama.

In the passing away of Shri S V Krishnan, “SVK” to friends, the Carnatic Music fraternity of Chennai have lost an inspirational and devout patron of Carnatic music for many decades. SVK first promoted Raga Sudha in Coimbatore . Moving to Chennai in the eighties, SVK had organized Carnatic concerts initially under the banner 'SVK’s Chamber Music' at his residence in Bhimasena Garden, Mylapore. Later he promoted ‘Nada Inbam’ and has been organizing Carnatic music programmes regularly at the Srinivasa Sastri Hall in Mylapore and later at his own venue 'Raga Sudha Hall', in Luz Avenue . His programmes were year-round and drew a knowledgeable audience. He identified and offered a platform to many a talented youngster.

Having had the privilege of hearing all the stalwarts of yesteryears, SVK had a very sensitive ear towards good music, wherever it came from. Though he was an organiser par excellence, he was a rasika first, and a critique. His characteristic address at the end of every concert 'Sabhayorgale...' was looked forward to, by the audience for his forthright analysis of the concert, invariably reflecting the feelings of audience.

He will be missed by musicians and rasikas. Carrying forward his work and spirit of devotion to music would be the best homage to his memory.

The passing away of Sri.S.V.Krishnan is a blow not only to his family and friends but to all the lovers of Carnatic Music in Chennai.

Originally from Coimbatore, he settled in Chennai with the primary objective of encouraging young talent providing a forum for all budding artistes.Towards this end, he started his won Raga Sudha and built the Hall, meticulously monitoring the audio systems for proper acoustic balance.
Very knowledgeable rasika that he was, he worked tirelessly that despite the plethora of musical sabhas in Chennai, especially in Mylapore, he made sure that institutions that were solely run by an individual can fill up a valuable 'niche' for music lovers to "savour" the budding artistes who otherwise would have to wait for a long time to be recognised by the established institutions.

When my father the late K.S.Mahadevan died, SVK who had respect for my father was kind enough to host the tribute function and in a tersely worded tribute (his characteristic style) acknowledged my father's contributions.

From a personal perspective, I admired his single-mindedness of purpose and tenacity in arranging recitals/tributes -- always carefully balancing the need for punctuality with due respect to the objectives of the function and not let functions 'drag on'.
He masterfully managed the process without 'ruffling' anybody's feathers.

Our family's heartfelt condolences to a true patron of Carnatic Music.
