Professional voice users are highly susceptible for voice changes, vocal fatigue, anxiety, throat tension, and pain due to the heavy demands made on the vocal apparatus by continuous speaking and singing activities.

For a vocalist (Carnatic singers and light music singers, music students and the like), the voice is the major investment (sometimes an asset) that earns him/her popularity and income. It is imperative for these elite performers to conserve, prevent abuse, and maintain vocal health to meet their occupational requirements.

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute ( Deemed University), Chennai is inaugurating the Sri Ramachandra Voice Clinic.
It is also hosting a International Digital Video Conference Lecture Series on November 17, 2006.

This program is co-sponsored by the United States Education Foundation in India (USEFI) as part of the International Education Week.
