Dance workshop in three-modules by Kalasrishti
 

Sujatha Ramalingam, a Bharatanatyam student from Kalakshetra, runs an institution - Kalashrishti in Kolkata. She had her training under senior dance guru Adyar K. Lakshman for more than a decade. She also used play lead roles in dancer Chandralekha's troupe, Angika.

She has been producing a few thematic presentations and dance ballets at her school, Kalashriti. For the first time, she has ventured into conducting of dance workshops for the benefit of dancers and dance lovers of Kolkata.

Sujatha says that the "maiden attempt was a three-module workshop on Natyasastra and Bharatanatyam conducted by N. Srikanth, a senior discple of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. Along with his dancer-wife Aswathy Srikanth, the first module went on for a week from Oct. 7 to 13 at two venues in Kolkata. Twenty dancers participated in the workshop which covered subjects like Angas, Upangas, Mukhaja aspects, Bhoomi Charis,etc., and a padam "Govindan Kuzhalosai" which was choreographed in Bharatanrityam style (the style adapted by Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam)."

Nalini Sridhar, disciple of Smt. Hemamalini Suresh, who partcipated in the worshop says "I learnt to move all my body parts separately which I had not done before. The workshop has roused a special interest in dance which otherwise was becoming a mundane activity." - Nalini Sridhar , disciple of Smt. Hemamalini Suresh.

Sujatha is motivated by the workshop and she is planning to host the second module during the last week of January 2007. She wants to give an introduction to Karanas and a chamber concert by the dancer duo Srikanth and Ashwathy along with the participants.
