Sruthi Ravi’s dance debut

Student of Padma Balakumar, an accomplished dancer and teacher of the Nritya Griha School of Dance in Sydney, Sruthi Ravi on her Arangetram portrayed with tremendous confidence, her perfect rhythmic command by executing intricate footwork in Jathiswaram.

In fluid choreographed movements, Sruthi weaved an intricate tapestry of steps with style (Bhava) through the stories of Govardhana Giridhari, Kalinga Narthanam and Draupadi Vastrapaharanam in the Varnam.

Dancing to the singing of Aruna Parthiban, violin played by Balaji Jagannathan, flute played by Devaki Vignesh, and Mridangam of Balasri Rasaih, Sydney was proud to host a production of all local casts.

A unique Veena - vocal arangetram

The Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, was graced the evening of Sep. 17 with the sounds of Carnatic music unique in presentation and presence in its Verbuggen Hall. Indumathi Balachandran, granddaughter of Veena Vidushi Bhagirathi Narasimhan offered an evening of softness, little known to this style.

This debut concert of Indumathi is unique for the first half of the concert Indu sang accompanied by her mother Malathi Nagarajan on the Veena and Sridhar Chary on the Mridangum.

In the second half of the concert Indu picked up the Veena to play her soulful music with perfect bhava and mano dharmam. A hard act to follow!
