Karnataka Ganakala Parishat's annual fest in mid-September

Karnataka Ganakala Parishat, formed by musicians of Karnataka in 1969, is a national organization, which is devoted for promoting the rich heritage of Indian classical and other forms of Music.

The Bangalore-based Parishat has been holding its annual music conference for the past 35 years at various centres like Mumbai, Chennai and other places.

The Parishat has also taken classical music to rasikas by conducting conferences at villages and small towns like Kukku Subramanya, Ramanathapura, Nanjangud, Shimoga, etc.

This year, the Parishat is organising its annual music conference and young musicians conference in Bangalore. The conference will be held from September 13 to 17, 2006, at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja. Vidwan S. Seshagiri Rao, a senior violinst has been elected as the President of the conferance by the experts committee of Parishat and he will be conferred the title Ganakalabhusana and a gold medal.

Also, the young and talented musicians Saralaya Sisters -Triveni and Kavitha - have been elected as President of the Young Musicians Conference and they will also be felicitated by conferring the title Ganakalashree.

This is the first time in history that a pair of artistes is being felicitated together. R. N. Thyagarajan of Rudrapatnam Brothers has been elected as the Chairman of the Experts Committee. The conference will be both acadamic and performance oriented.

Everyday, in the morning, expert sessions will be held in the presence of the expert committe chairman and cover discussions, symposia, lecture demonstrations, multimedia presentations on various subjects on music.

There will also be a music workshop for four days. The Parishat intends to have around 11 concert evenings involving about 50 to 55 performers. The academic sessions are handled by well known and young scholars.
