Bangalore based musician-art critic Mysore V. Subramanya has been elected as President of the Thirty Eighth Music Conference of The Bangalore Gayana Samaja. He will preside over the Experts Sessions being held daily in the mornings from Monday 14th August 2006 to Saturday 19th August 2006. The theme of the Conference is "Karnatakada Vaggeya Vaibhava" (Splendour of Compositions of Karnataka Composers).
Mysore V.Subramanya is the great-grandson of Veena Seshanna, the legendary musician of Mysore Palace and son of Swaramurthy V. N. Rao, veteran artiste of Karnataka. Hailing from such well known family of musicians, Mysore Subramanya developed interest in music from his young age. With the excellent training he received from his illustrious father and the environment of great musicians of the time, he was groomed with the lakshya and lakshana aspects of music in both vocal and veena. A student of literature and fine arts, academically he took his post graduate degree. Trained in the intricacies of the art of Veena playing and a Musicologist with deep knowledge of technical aspects of music and dance, he has specialized in the field of review of fine arts.
He has been a regular contributor of music and dance reviews to leading dailies for over twenty-five years. He has written a large number of articles to news papers, journals, souvenirs, presented papers in seminars and conferences, participated in discussions and interviews in electronic media on various technical aspects of music and dance. He has scripted and directed several programmes for All India Radio and Doordarshan. "Haridasa Nadanjali", a tribute to Haridasas of Karnataka is one of his very popular musical features. He has trained a large number of students in Veena playing.
A leading archivist of Karnataka, he has built an archives with photographs of great musicians, dancers and other artistes. This rare treasure of collections has been exhibited in many parts of the country. A dedicated organizer, he has served as General Secretary of Karnataka Ganakala Parishat for two decades and has served as founder editor of its magazine 'Gayana Siri'. He was responsible for promoting its Youth Wing. He has been serving Thyagaraja Brindavana Samithi at .Srirangapatna for several years and has given new dimension to its activities. He is a Trustee of the Mysore Palace Trust.
He has been a member of a large number of committees, both in Government and in voluntary cultural organizations, including Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy. He is the recipient of several awards, titles and honours including Critics Award from Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy, "Artist of the Year" of The Bangalore Gayana Samaja, "Jnana Saraswathi Peeth Puraskar" from Suswara, Chennai, and the titles "Karnataka Kalashri", "Sangeetha Kalabhushana", and "Sahitya Kalashree".
