Andhra Music Academy, Vishakhapatnam and Nada Bharathy, Hyderabad, in association with Chennai based Sarvani Sangeetha Sabha honoured the veteran Carnatic vocalist D.K. Pattammal with the 'Sangeetha Vidyanidhi' and 'Sangeetha Bharathy - Life Time Achievement Award' at an event held in Chennai recently. It was held at the main hall of The Music Academy and saw a huge turn out of rasikas.
The programme commenced with a music concert by the sishyas of DKP.
Among the special guests that evening were maestro M. Balamurali Krishna, veteran dancer Vyjayanthimala Bali and N. Murali, President, The Music Academy.
R. Prabhakar Rao, President, Andhra Music Academy said that the prestigious award is usually presented at Hyderabad, but considering the age and health of D.K.Pattammal, the function was hosted at Chennai.
In her thanksgiving speech Pattammal said that she would like to sing till her last breath. It was also an emotional evening for her husband Eswaran, aged 94, who sat next to DKP on stage.

Nada Bharathy
A Trust dedicated to Indian classical music based at Hyderabad. Provides a platform for youngsters and holds monthly concerts at various centres in Hyderabad. It runs a non-commercial music school and offers training in vocal, violin, flute, veena, mridangam etc.
