Land alloted for a temple for Bharatha munivar

 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has announced that a five-acre land had been allotted by her government, for the construction of a temple for sage Bharatha, who evolved the ancient art form of Bharathanatyam.

This was annonuced at the Tamil Nadu Assembly on January 20, 2006.

The Chief Minister said that well known dancer Padma Subrahmanyam had said that there was a temple for Bharatha in Indonesia and requested her government to allot land for a temple in Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, participating at an event held in June 2003, to mark the golden jubilee of the dance career of Padma Subrahmanyam, the chief minister assured the State's help to construct a temple for sage Bharatha in Tamil Nadu, following a request from Padma.
