Ragashree Sammelanotsava / Bangalore

Sri D Subbaramaia Fine Arts Trust celebrated the Ragashree Sammelanotsava, its annual music fest, from December 2 to 4, 2005 in Bangalore. The festival started with a Bharatanatyam recital by Padmini Upadhya, on Dec. 2. This was followed by the inaugurals and award ceremony. B. N. V. Subramanya presided. Y. K. Muddukrishna, Retd. Director, Kannada and Culture Dept. was the chief guest. Bharatanatyam guru Narmada from Bangalore, was awarded the title 'Gandharva Vidyanidhi'. Dr. Mathur Krishnamurthy received the title 'Lalitha Kalashraya'. Sanskrit scholar Dr. Shathavadhani R. Ganesh, Yakshagana exponent Keremane Shambhu Hegde, light music artiste H. R. Leelavathy and senior musician S. Subbaramaiah were felicitated. The award ceremony was followed by a dance recital by the Bharathanjali group, of Guru Bhanumathi.

Second day’s programmes started with paper presentations by Smt Neela Ramanujam, Smt Radha Sridhar and Smt Lalitha Srinivasan, on the role of music in dance. This was followed by a veena recital by Vid D Balakrishna and Vid Manjula Surendra, with Arjun Kumar on the mridangam and Vid Giridhar Udupa on the Ghatam.

The final day’s programmes were divided into two sessions. The morning session began with a percussion ensemble under the direction of mridangist A. V. Anand, followed by a lec-dem on 'Padahbinaya' by Padmini Rao. The session concluded with a tribute to the trinity through goshti Gayana.

The evening’s programmes included ‘Vadyalahari’, an instrumental ensemble under the direction of Geetha Ramanand, a well-known veena artist from Bangalore.

Other than monthly concerts and music festivals, Subbaramaiah Trust promotes fine arts, through awarding scholarships to young artistes and till date, 45 students have benefited by this.
