By Srimatha / Bangalore

Ananya of Bangalore has brought out Kannada editions of Sangeetha Sampradaya Pradarshini (first volume) and Prathamabhyasa Pusthaka by Subbarama Dikshitar.

Sangeetha Sampradaya Pradarshini is a milestone in the history of carnatic music. Originally published in Telugu a hundred years ago, it has retained its relevance to the music field to this day. Prathamabhyasa Pusthaka, also by Subbarama Dikshitar, contains both theoretical and practical aspects of elementary teaching methods. Both these Kannada editions have been edited by Prof. S. K. Ramachandra Rao and Anandarama Udupa.

The books were released by Dr Thimmappa, VC, Bangalore University, on 17 December, 2005 at Gayana Samaja, Bangalore. Senior artiste S. Krishnamurthy presided over the programme. Senior musician and scholar, T. Shachidevi spoke on the significance of Sampradaya Pradarshini, and the importance of such a work being brought out in Kannada.

On the same occasion, 'Mahavaidyanatha Sivan Avara Melaragamalike', another work edited by Anandarama Udupa and published by Shruthi Ranjani, was also released.

This was followed by a concert dedicated to compositions of Muthuswamy Dikshitar by R. N. Srilatha, a senior vocalist and music scholar from Mysore. She was accompanied by Veena Suresh (Violin) Tumkur B. Ravishankar (Mridangam) and Tumkur B. Shashishankar(Ghatam).
