Aanandaa fest of music and dance / Bangalore
By Anitha Santhanam / Bangalore

The three-day Aanandaa Festival of music and dance organised by arts patron Subbu Iyer and Guru Minal Prabhu in Bangalore last week, strung together some interesting performances in music and dance.

The festival honoured violin maestro V.V Subramanium for completing 50 years in this field on the opening day. The honour was conferred by senior mridangist Umayalpuram Sivaraman. In the concert that followed, VVS along with VV Ravi and VVS Murari and Umayalpuram Sivaraman, kept the audience spellbound with their unhurried and soulful music.

Day two featured an Odissi solo by Sangeeta Rajan and 'Krishnanandam' a dance drama choreographed by Minal Prabhu. Krishnanandam showcased the Navarasas through episodes from Krishna’s life. The dance drama combined nritta sequences with some scintillating dramatic episodes, including the killing of Kamsa and Shishupala, the disrobing of Draupadi and Krishna’s Viswarupa. The concluding day featured Bharatanatyam dancer Priyadharshini Govind and vocalist T M Krishna.

One of the main objectives of the Aanandha festival was to draw the youth to a deeper appreciation of Indian culture. The shows at the fest went well with the Bangalore audience.
