Celebrations at Hamsadhwani / Bangalore
By Srimatha Ramanand / Bangalore

Hamsadhwani Creations of Bangalore celebrated its 6th anniversary and music festival from Sep. 30 to Oct. 2, 2005 at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja.

After the inauguration on the first day, two stalwarts - Prof R Vishweshwaran and S Krishnamurthy were felicitated. This was followed by the release of 2nd and 3rd volumes of the Vaggeya Vaibhava series featuring compositions of Karnataka composers. The second volume is compositions of Muttahiah Bhagavathar, and is rendered by S. Shankar and his disciple K. Prashanth. The third volume is compositions of Mysore Vasudevacharya, and is sung by R. K. Padmanabha and his disciple Manasi Prasad. A veena concert by Prof Vishweshwaran concluded the day’s events.

The second day's programmes began with a mass lalithasahasranamam, followed by rendition of compositions of Mysore Sadashiva Rao by the participants of the study circle conducted by M.S. Sheela, as part of the Vaggeya Vaibhava series. There was a concert by Dr T. S. Sathyavathi after this. The highlight of the concert was that it featured only Devi kritis.

The final day witnessed performances by youngsters. Disciples of M S Sheela presented Devi Kritis. This was followed by a special feature: Sapthaswara Choodamani. This was based on Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s work - Srithathva Nidhi, and was very well received.
