Shruthi UK, an association of music lovers, West Yorkshire, U.K. along with the Leeds Hindu Temple presented its first event on Carnatic music, on March 16, at Leeds Hindu Temple.
The temple hall, a serene environment, marked the setting for a peaceful evening of music.
The Carnatic vocal concert by musician Prof.T.V.G. marked the beginning for Shruthi-UK. The concert had a full house audience.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by TVG. He began the concert with a brisk alapana in Hamsadhwani, followed by a Kanakadasa composition Nammamma Sharade, referring to the different facets of Lord Ganesha.
The concert also featured compositions like Samaja Varagamana, a composition of Thyagaraja in one of the rare ragas Gowlipanthu, Tera dee yakaradha, a Malayalam Bhajan, a Marathi abhang a Tulsidas bhajan, the Pancharathna kriti, Entharomahaanubhaavulu and Tamburi meetidhava in Sindhu Bhairavi.
Carnatic vocalist and Bharatnatyam dancer Chithra Ramakrishnan, a disciple of TVG is the artistic director of Shruthi U.K.
