Thyagaraja Aradhana in Twin Cities

This year the Thyagaraja Aradhana in the Twin Cities were spread out in time and space. They started in January at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad and ended just this week at Malkajgiri on the outskirts of Secunderabad.

Vijnana Samithi of Anandanagar, established in 1977, had a 5-day celebration which featured several young local artistes in the afternoons and senior artistes from other cities in the evenings. The senior artistes included Chennai's Prapancham Sitaram (Flute), Mandapaka Sarada of Visakhapatnam (Vocal), Akondi Srinivasa Rajarao from Kakinada (Vocal), Emani Lalitha Krishna (Gotu Vadyam), K. Subhashini Sastry (Veena) and B. Lalitha Madhav (Vocal).

At Malkajgiri, Thyagaraja Aradhana Utsava Samithi had a novel Carnatic music ensemble on 2 March, consisting of veena (D. Srinivas), flute (V. Nagaraju), violins (B. S. Narayanan and Surya Deepthi), clarinet (Kota Achibabu), mridangam (P.V. Ramana Murthy), dolu (T.Narayana), tabla (Preminder Singh) and morsing (G. Satya Sai).

This was followed on succeeding days by performances of Hyderabad Sisters Lalitha and Haripriya, D. V. Mohana Krishna, Rudrapatnam Brothers Thiagarajan and Taranath and M.S.Sheela of Bangalore. Hyderabad Brothers Seshachari and Raghavachari conducted Pancharathna Seva along with several other rasikas. On the last day, a Bharatanatyam performance featured students of Saraswati Sangeeta Kala Vidyalayam, followed by a Harikatha by Dhulipala Sivarama Krishna Sarma Bhagavatar.
