Andhra Music Academy's 5th anniversary

The Andhra Music Academy based in Visakhapatnam, celebrated its 5th anniversary in Hyderabad, from 22-27 January 2005. During the celebration, they presented kutcheris and dances, showcasing performances by some one hundred veteran and upcoming artists from all over South India.

The main events, kicked off by Prapancham Sitaram (Chennai, Flute), were followed by Mysore Nagaphani Srinadh (Bangalore, Vocal), Hyderabad Brothers Seshachari and Raghavachari (Vocal), T. V. Sankaranarayanan (Chennai, Vocal), Komanduri Seshadri and Venkatakrishna (Hyderabad, Violin Duo), Rajeswari Sainath & party (Bharatanatyam), and B.V.S. Lakshmimani & party (Chennai, Kuchipudi). Several I.A.S. officers including the Chief Secretary Mohan Kanda presided over the functions each day.

Awatds were presented to veteran gurus Dr. Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma (Kuchipudi) and Annavarapu Ramaswami (Carnatic music), presided by K. Rosaiah, Minister for Finance and Legislative Affairs of A.P. Sangeetha Sasthra Siromani Awards were presented by Dwaram Bhavanarayana Rao Memorial Trust to T.S. Parthasarathy, Nallan Chakravartula Krismnamachari and T.R.Subramanyam.

An educational exhibition of charts depicting the origin and history of Carnatic Music, various dance forms, composers, and ragas was also arranged in the hallway of Ravindra Bharathi. Being the inaugural of the 2005 cultural season, the programs were very well attended and appreciated by rasikas of the twin cities.
