The Khajuraho Festival of Dances will be held from February 25 to March 3, 2005 in Madhya Pradesh, India.Once the capital of the great Chandela Kings, Khajuraho today is a quiet village of a few thousand people. Well known classical dancers of India perform against the spectacular backdrop of the floodlit temples.
This year, apart from the dance festival, an interactive session is also being held. Each morning at the foyer of the Chandela Hotel, arts scholar Sunil Kothari will conduct a dance appreciation course at 11 am with participation from the dancers who perform at the fest.
Besides the dance performances, what attracts you at Khajuraho are the beautiful stone temples built by the Chandela kings, housed all over the town. If you take an early morning walk to the temples, you can catch a glimpse of the dancers posing for a photo session, with the background of the temple sculptures lit up by the morning sun. A drive to the nearby jungles and the waterfall and shopping near the festival venue are other attractions.
