Enthusiasm gripped musicians who were seen in action at the 'Cricket Kutcheri' in Chennai last weekend.
It was organized by the YACM on Jan. 8, 2005 at the YMCA grounds.
"This event marks the end of the strenous December season and it is an yearly entertainment fare for all of us" said Swarna Rethas, President YACM.
There were many musicians and many rasikas to cheer and watch the vocalists bowl and bat! The committee members of YACM choose the artistes for the teams depending on their ability to play cricket.
This time, the four teams were captained by T M Krishna, Palghat Ramprasadh, Varadarajan and Poongulam Subramaniam.
After the 1st innings, Vijay Siva, Unnikrishnan and Sanjay Subrahmanyam were seen leaving. Sashikiran joined only later in the match but was through in to the finals!
The finals were played between the teams of T.M. Krishna and S. Varadarajan. And Varadarajan's team won. Mannargudi Easwaran gave away the medals and the event came to an end at around 4 pm with Purushottaman's three cheers for YACM.
Youth Association for Classical Music, popularly known as YACM is an organization that works towards propagation and promotion of Classical Music among youth.
YACM organises concerts by young musicians, lec-dems, workshops besides competitions for students, quiz, games, debates, face-to-face meetings with leading musicians.
YACM produces a newsletter, 'Dhwani' once in two months sent to all members, patrons, musicians and well wishers free of cost. YACM also co-ordinates with leading sabhas, helping them organise youth festivals.
'Cricket Kutcheri' was first held in 1994 and for the past four years it is being organized by the YACM.
YACM will organize its monthly concerts from March 2005 and plans to celebrate the Shivarathri with an 'Akhandam' at Madhya Kailas Temple in Adyar.
