Mannargudi Sambasiva Bhagavatar passes away 
Veteran Harikatha artiste Mannargudi Sambasiva Bhagavatar passed away on 6 December 2004. He was 92. He was a disciple of Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer in music and trained in Harikatha under C. Saraswathi Bai and Madurai Narayana Bhagavatar. Sambasiva Bhagavatar served as a lecturer in Harikatha at the Tamil Nadu Government College of Music and also worked as an Inspector of Music and Dance Schools at the behest of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Manram.

As a composer, Bhagavathar has composed about 3000 kritis. He was a recipient of awards like 'Kalaimamani' and the TTK Award from The Music Academy.

For the past 63 years he was actively involved in the activities of the Tyagaraja Sangeetha Vidwat Samajam in Mylapore, next to which he resided. Bhagavatar trained a number of students in music and Harikatha. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. His family can be contacted at No. 5, Thiagarajapuram, Mylapore, Chennai - 600 004.
