| Well known Mumbai based modern dancer Astad Deboo and students of Chennai based Clarke School for the Deaf, premiere 'Contraposition', a newly choreographed dance presentation on December 9, at Chinmaya Heritage Centre, Chennai.
Themed on 'Navarasa' or the nine emotions, the production features Deboo with H. Mahalakshmi, T. Mahalakshmi, S. Jamuna Rani, H. G. Divya, S. Gayathree, N. Meenakumari, M. V. Silsha and R. Karthika of Clarkes School, assisted by Lakshmi Mahesh and Narayanee Venkatasubramanian. The show will also be presented at Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai this month. And in January 2005, it will be showcased at the cultural festival of the 'Deaf Olympics' in Melbourne, Australia. Deboo who has earlier worked on productions with students of the Clarkes School says, "There is a deep pool of talent within the deaf community. It has been a joy working with this group, not only because they have grasped so quickly the essence of what I am attempting, but because they have begun dialoging with me and among themselves, and are themselves contributing to the work."
The production is being supported by a grant from the Royal Netherlands Embassy besides corporate sponsorship. Schedule of performance:
