Welcome to 'Srujana'
By Aruna. S / reported from Bangalore

Sounds of water gushing down from a specially designed waterfall, a huge mural of a tree in terracotta and bright energizing colours welcome you to 'Srujana' a new dance studio located at Basavanagudi, South of Bangalore.

"Srujana - meaning creative, is our dream come true", say Nirupama and Rajendra, the popular dancer duo of Bangalore. "A great ambience adds a lot to classical artistes to get re-energized and keep the passion going. Having worked in dance studios abroad we always wanted one in our own country" says an all excited Nirupama as she looks around and admires (probably for the nth time) this beautiful place she owns...

Designed by architect A.K. Raju, the dance studio also integrates Vaasthu and Fengshui principles applied by S.B.S. Surendran.

Wooden floor, mirrored walls, colours of orange and yellow splashed across the studio and greenroom facilities simply make the place attractive to any visitor.

Besides practice sessions and dance choreography, special chamber concerts for a 150-seated audience, is also held here.

Adds Nirupama, "People have loved watching close counter performances here, as the experience of watching has been far more effective than in a formal theatre set up. We wish to conduct interactive sessions with leading artistes from Dance, Drama, Music, Theatre and related fields.
The programmes featured here so far are 'Ekavyakthi Yakshagana' by Mantap.R.Prabhakar, Storytelling & dance by Guy Hutchins and Chitraleka Bolar of U.K, Jugalbandhi (tabla and mridangam) by Sarwar Sabri and Balakrishna, Bharatanatyam by Puneet Panda (of U.S.A), Bhajans by Shankar Shanbogue and a presentation of Ashtapadi by Sundari Santhanam.

If you're a Banglorean, this place is a must see. Sure, any dancer would love to perform here... and any rasika, to just be here and experience the 'feel good' factor...

'Srujana' is at No.94, EAT Street, Basavangudi, Bangalore-4. Ph: 080-26676500. E-mail: nirupamarajendra@abhinava.net
