| It was a special occasion for senior Bharatanatyam guru T.K. Narayan of Hyderabad. His sishyas, children, friends and relatives got together to celebrate his 81st birthday last month (May 2004), in Hyderabad.
Narayan who hails from Karnataka, trained in Bharatanatyam under Pandanallur Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai and Muthukumara Pillai. After several years of association with the well known dancer the late Ramgopal in Bangalore, Narayan founded his own institution 'Academy of Bharatanatyam' in 1948. Having settled in Hyderabad, Narayan and his wife Jayalakshmi have been training several students in Bharatanatyam in the twin cities, while their daughter Gayathri Keshavan continues their tradition in Bangalore.
