'Basics of Bharatanatyam', is a new book released by Uttara Centre for Performing Arts, Hyderabad.
Authored by Geetha Ganesan, the book was released by Guru V. S. Ramamoorthy at a function in Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. T. N.C. Rangarajan, a former judge of the A.P. High Court, presided.
Gurus Uma Ramarao, Jayalakshmi, Dr. T. K. Narayanan and Manjula Ramaswami presided.
Students of UCPA demonstrated the various mudras, adavus and combination of adavus that make up a dance number, to the music played by other pupils of UCPA. And Geetha Ganesan demonstrated the 'Navarasas'.
The book is particularly useful for students taking Prarambik and Praveshika exams of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalay (AIGMV) in Bharatanatyam, and also for rasikas in general. The book has illustrations for beginners to understand the basics of the various movements. The importance of tala, rasa and bhava are also explained.
