Festival hosts and rasikas in Cleveland, Houston, Maryland and Portland, are all set for the kutcheri season...Here is a round up on the concert schedule.

Thyagaraja Aradhana at Cleveland
The annual Thyagaraja Aradhana and music concerts at Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A will be held from April 10 to 18, 2004. The music competition will be held on April 9. The fest begins with Nadaswaram by Sheikh Subhani Mahaboob and party at 7 am on April 10 followed by bhajans and the Pancharathna kritis. Some of the musicians from India participating at the fest are R.K. Srikantan, Rajam Iyer, T.N. Krishnan, Aruna Sairam, Bombay Jayashree, T.M. Krishna, Sanjay Subramaniam, Sangeetha Swaminathan, Mala Chandrasekhar, Suma Sudhindra and Chitraveena Ravikiran among several other artistes. A special dance recital on April 11, 2004 (6.30 pm, Waetjen Auditorium, CSU) will feature well known dance guru C.V. Chandrashekar and his troupe.

Nadatarangini's fest / Maryland
Nadatarangini and Sri Siva Vishnu temple, Maryland, U.S.A host the 17th annual Sri Purandara Dasa and Thyagaraja music festival on April 23, 24 and 25 at SSVt auditorium, 6905 Cipriano Road, Lanham, M.D.

The fest features vocal concerts by R.K. Srikantan, Srivatsan Menon, Sarvesh Ramaprakash, D. K. Nagarajan, Usha Char, Nirmala Ramaswamy, Aparna Balasubramanian, Geetha Raja, Suma Sudheendra (Tarangini Veena) and V.K. Raman (flute).

The accompanists are: Violin - K. S. Mani, Radhika Mani, Sandhya, Srinath, Radhika Char and Ranjini Atur. Mridangam / Kanjira / Ghatam - Kannan Krishnaswamy, Anoor Dattatreya Sharma, Sudhindra Rao, P. K. Swaminathan, Srinath Balasubramanian, Gautam Sudhakar, Vivek Chellappa, Rajna Swaminathan and Ayyappa Venkataraman.

There will also be group singing by children. Nadatarangini was started about 20 years ago in Columbus, Ohio. Now it has its roots both in Washington Metropolitan area and in Ohio. The annual 3 day Music festival during the last week of April at the SSVT auditorium has become a program that people look forward to every year. More than 150 children participate in the festival every year. People of all ages not only from Washington but also surrounding areas participate and attend this festival. The newly renovated Sri Siva Vishnu Temple Auditorium with all the modern sound and light facilities will be inaugurated during the festival on 24 April, 2004.

Thyagaraja Aradhana / Houston, Texas

The 26th annual Tyagaraja festival in Houston is scheduled for April 24 and 25, 2004. Visiting artistes Bombay Jayshree sings on April 24 and violin duo Kanyakumari & Embar Kannan perform on April 25. The traditional Unchavritti procession followed by Pancharathna kritis to start the festival will be held on April 24. The fest is organised by Classical Arts Society. Thyagaraja Aradhana / Portland
Rasika, Portland will host the 2004 Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Festival on May 1 and 2 at Sunset High School, Beaverton, Portland, OR.

The festival will feature visiting artistes (S. Sowmya, Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi and others) from India as well as local artists.

The Thyagaraja Aradhana music festival attracts a large number of participants and attendees from the Pacific Northwest. This event is coordinated with Kalanjali in Corvallis, Oregon and ACME Foundation & Seattle Rasika in Seattle, WA.
