Special Postal Cover
A special occasion calls for a special commemoration. And so, the Postal Department, Government of India, arranged for a special cancellation cover, to mark the diamond jubilee of the Chennai-based Nrithodaya, founded in 1942, by famed film director K. Subrahmanyam. Today, this institution is run by Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.

The special postal cover has an illustration of K. Subrahmanyam, one of the panels of the 108 karana sculptures designed by Dr. Padma for the Uttara Chidambaram Nataraja Mandir (temple) in Satara, Maharashtra, besides some Bharatanatyam mudras. The cover also carries a Rs.5 postage stamp of Lord Nataraja.

Copies of the first day cover with the postage stamp can be had from the Philatelic Bureau, Head Post Office, Chennai 600 002. A collector's item.
