The Sundaram Finance - Mylapore Festival is an annual event which celebrates heritage and tradition, lifestyle, art and culture in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of the city of Chennai. MYLAPORE. The first edition of the festival was held in 2002 January on a small scale.

The THIRD was held from January 6 to 9.held on Jan.6, 7, 8, 9 of 2005.
The venues for all the events are the open spaces, street corners and the Mada Streets around the world famous Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple.

The fest was born out of a small kolam contest that the weekly neighbourhood newspaper Mylapore Times ( 10 years old now) started almost a decade ago.

To enlarge the scope of the event, in 2003, the kolam contest became the Mylapore Festival.

The weekly neighbourhood newspaper, Mylapore Times, with a circulation of 28,000 copies and a readership of nearly 1 lakh, organises the Fest. Sundaram Finance is the main sponsor.

The Festival celebrates the unique nature of this area - whose history is far, far older than the city itself. And it invites people from all over the city to take part in it.

Here is a pictorial essay on the 2005 festival.
