Come October and its time for a showcase of music, dance, theatre, crafts and films in Kerala. While, Soorya has been hosting its annual festival for 25 years now in Trivandrum, Swaralaya, a new organisation has been active the last four years, promoting arts in Palakkad. And for Navarathri of course, the Palace Complex at East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram, comes alive with kutcheris dedicated to Maharaja Swathi Tirunal. Here's the schedule of these festivals...
Thiruvananthapuram based Kerala Cultural Centre organises 'Mudra Fest 2004', a four-day classical dance festival and seminar from 24 to 27 September 2004 at Koothambalam, Vyloppilly Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. This is the first time that such a seminar is being organised by Kerala Cultural Centre, that functions under the Department of Culture, Govt. of Kerala.
Dancers and scholars will perform before an invited audience and present lecture-demonstrations for students and art lovers. Mudra is expected to evolve into a prestigious annual cultural event, under the patronage of Dept. of Culture, Govt. of Kerala. Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and South Zone Cultural Centre are also partners for this festival.

Soorya Festival / Trivandrum
Soorya, the leading Stage and Film Society in Kerala will hold its annual fest of music and dance between 1 and 10 October at Tagore Theatre, Trivandrum. The fest features vocalists K.J. Yesudas, Trichur Ramachandran, Sudha Raghunathan, T.M. Krishna, Matangi Satyamurthy and flute maestro N. Ramani. The dancers include Padma Subrahmanyam, Leela Samson, Urmila Sathyanarayanan, Shobana, Sukanya, Niveditha Parthasarathy and Kerala Kalamandalam group.
A 'Ramayanam' festival featuring the various dance and theare forms of Kerala will be held from October 21 to 31.
'Parampara' a fest of music and dance by the disciples of renowned gurus, is scheduled from 1 to 10 November.
The 75-day long fest also features a film fest, video fest, literary meet, theatre fest, talk fest and Artists' village. 'Dance like a Man' a film themed on dance, by Pamela Rooks featuring dancer-actress Shobana will be screened on 30 Sept. as part of the film fest.

Navarathri fest / Trivandrum
The Navarathri festival of music will be held from October 14 to 22, at the Navarathri Mandapam, Fort Palace Complex, East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram.
The fest features compositions of Maharaja Swathi Tirunal. Preceeding the concerts will be a rendering of 'thodayamangalam' by the 'Mullamoodubhagavathars' traditional musicians attached to the temple.
The fest features T.N. Seshagopalan, T.V. Gopalakrishnan, Prince Rama Varma, Malladi Brothers, Trichur Ramachandran, Vechur C. Sankar, Rudrapatnam Brothers, T.M. Krishna and K.N. Renganatha Sarma.
