By popular demand, Sneha Yagam (An Offering of Love) will be staged once again on July 29, 2006 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater in Rockville, Maryland.
‘Sneha Yagam’ is an _expression of love towards our natural surroundings which we are intrinsically a part of. The production was conceived and choreographed by well known Chennai-based touring Bharatanatyam artistes, N. Srikanth and Aswathy Srikanth.
Through the beautiful verses of the legendary Indian poet Kalidasa, the production depicts man, who long before establishing civilizations and seeking urbanization, lived in great harmony with nature. With a climax penned by contemporary poet Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri, we explore man’s continual and cyclical struggle with nature: man exploits nature, nature strikes back against man. Can we find symmetry? Does such a balance exist? Sneha Yagam is a brief pause from our frenzied living to pay tribute to that which we too easily ignore yet can no longer afford to forget...
This unique dance production that incorporates various Indian classical dance forms into its narrative was a significant success in its debut last summer. Viewers commented that it was refreshing in its attempts to address a theme that is not often highlighted in the Indian dance context. Ushas has decided to stage Sneha Yagam again in the hopes that those who enjoyed the production can see it again, and those who missed it last year, will get an opportunity to see it this time.
Sneha Yagam is another unique Ushas project that seeks to showcase the talents of the greater dance community in the Washington Metro area.
