US based young mridangist Rohan Krishnamurthy has received a national recognition from 'USA Today', the largest circulated daily in the USA.
The award, called the 'USA Today All College Academic Team' is a prestigious national recognition for undergraduate students in the US. In order to be considered for this award, the candidate must be nominated by their college, possess excellent academic standing and also excel in leadership qualities and other achievements. This year, Michigan based Rohan, a student of mridangist Guruvayur Dorai, who performs widely in the USA, was selected for this honour, from about 600 nominations nationwide
Says Rohan, "I hope this will encourage children of Indian origin in the US to pursue what they like to do most and excel in that without inhibitions."
