Bharatanatyam dancer Malini Srinivasan and her students performed an unique Bharatanatyam event to introduce Bharatanatyam to an all-American audience in Battery Park City, Manhattan, New York.
The dance, staged in an open-air theatre against the silhouette of the Empire State Building with the Hudson River in the background, was supported on the live orchestra by Meena Telikacherla on Nattuvangam and musical orchestra by Jayamangala team - Jaya Bala and Jayashree Shriram on vocal, Srinath Bala on mridangam and Sandhya Srinath on violin. Dancers of the day were Surili Sutaria and Puja Telikacherla.
During the grand finale, Malini demonstrated the Thillana steps and hand gestures. An audience of about 200 people spontaneously responded to an invitation to join the dancers on the floor. The enthusiastic and excited audience are ready to be part of more such interactive programs.
