Rudrapatna is a small village on the banks of river Cauvery in Arkalgud Taluk, Hassan District of Karnataka. This village has given birth to lot of musicians and hence most people call it as the 'Thiruvayyar of Karnataka'.
Six years ago, in 2001 - Rudrapatna music festival took its birth. Started as a small event then, now it is one of the prime musical events in Karnataka. People from various parts of Karnataka, other states in the country as well as from abroad come over to Rudrapatna for three days to enjoy the countryside atmosphere, which is pollution free and the veda - nada experience.
Rudrapatna, a village along side river Cauvery, had musicians in every house of the village and every evening, the village witnessed concerts by great vidwans. Some the yesteryear musicians being - Veena Rangappa (who has composed the fampus Kedara gowla - Mishra Jampe varna & the Nayaki - Khanda Triputa Varnas), Vidwan Shathavadhani, Vidwan R K Venkatarama Shastry, Vidwan R S Keshvamurthy among many others.
Rudrapatna Sangeethotsava was started in 2001 to pay homage to all the great musicians this village, has produced. Ganakalabhusana Vidwan R K Padmanabha - the main architect behind this festival is doing wonders to this village.
This year's festival started off with Rathotsava, through which all the artists were welcomed to the village. There were Carnatic music concerts, jugal bandhis and lec-dems during the three day festival.
The musicians who participated in the festival and the rasikas who throunged the festial venue enjoyed the evenings.
