Kuwait recently played host to an Indian Dance and Music Festival conducted by Bharathiya Sanskrithi Manch (BHASMA) as a tribute to late Dr. K T B Menon.
The festival was inaugurated by the ambassador of India to Kuwait, M.Ganapathy on May 1. The programme started with a music concert directed by Mavelikkara Satish Chandran, a disciple of guru Lalgudi Jayaraman and P. Padmesh, disciple of guru Dr. N. Ramani and a resident of Trivandrum. They were accompanied by Perunna Harikumar, disciple of guru T. K. Moorthy on mridangam, Manjoor Unnikrishnan on ghatam and Manoj Mavelikkara on the morsing.
The second part of the programme was a Bhartanatyam recital by Shijith Nambiar and Parvathy Menon, the dancer-couple from Kalakshetra, Chennai.
On Day Two, the programmes featured local talent in Carnatic music. This was followed by a workshop on dance and music conducted by Shijith Nambiar and Chengottai Hariharasubramaniyan.
The finale of the festival was the Carnatic music recital by Chengottai Harihara Subramaniyan.
Ousephachan, a prominent music composer of the Malayalam film industry was honoured at the fest.
