Dr. M. Narmada - Violinist
Dr. M. NarmadaI have to begin this column by wishing you all a very Happy New Year. For even as I performed during the season in December 1999 the onset of the Millennium was widely evidenced and reflected in every sabha in every nook and corner of musical activity.

What a dazzling array of CDs, CD ROMs and audio and video cassettes! Any music lover would have just had a wonderful treat for his ears. Whether to chose a thematic concert or a bhajan or a live concert this would have been his dilemma!

The Music Academy was host to a meg- millennium , never heard before, never witnessed before show. Great musicians, septugenarians, offerred such honeyed music for the rasikas.

Yes, I too walked up to Arusuvai’s delicious canteen drawn there by the aroma and helped myself to a liberal piece of the generously sized wheat halwa, and believe me I would have not minded gaining a few extra kiloas. How mouth watering it was!

The season was all around us, in the papers and on the Internet too. We are truly playing to a global audience now. All in all, a season not to be missed.
