Violinist
Dr.M. Narmadha is one of the few musicians to have perfectly blended
the styles of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music
The violin, said the late legend Yehudi Menuhin is 'vocal melody'
all by itself.
One
such genius to blend style in Carnatic and Hindusthani music through
the violin in contemporary times is Dr M Narmadha, musicologist
of repute from chennai and a violin-virtuoso par excellence, who
is scheduled to play in the city on the weekend Narmadha's interest
in the violin is inherited she imbibes it from her family and the
Parur School in violin, which is know for its single finger technique
to encompass the gamut of gamakas (grace) and glides on brisk boqing
across the strings Says Narmadha, ''The Parur technique has earned
universal acceptance for its eloquent vocalism.

Both
Hindusthani and Carnatic music register in a blend for notes for
enriched aesthetics'' Narmadha started learning from grandfather
Parur Sundaramaiyer, and then went on to study under her father,
the contemporary legend, violin maestro M S Gopalakrishnan.
The
phased learning inculcated style and substane in her skill. She
has become an icon today, especially for learners with a yen to
play violin in both styles Carnatic and Hindusthani. But Naradha's
not resting on her laurels.
She
has recently published a book on INDIAN MUSIC AND SANCARAS IN RAGAS.
The book elucidates the richness of Khayal in its melody stream,
and the unfolding of Carnatic music in rhythmic scales, says this
doctorate in Comparative Study of the Indian Classical Ragas from
from Delhi University.
