PEOPLE / Dominique Delorme

Paris-based dancer and teacher Dominique Delorme says he is thrilled to be back in Chennai 10 years after his last concert here for Bharat Kalachar in 2001.

He was due to perform last year but a nasty accident left him in hospital and he underwent a long period of recuperation. He says he thought his career was over but it has been otherwise.

Dominique performed on Thursday afternoon for Narada Gana Sabha and will perform again at The Music Academy dance fest on Jan.9.

A student of Padma Subrahmanyam, he has been a Chennai regular and is currently staying at the Woodlands Hotel. Later, he intends to tour the temple towns of the state. His contact - 8939618990.

People / B. M. Sundaram

A few people have been constants in the season’s calendar. And nothing can keep them away.

One is writer-scholar-musician B. M. Sundaram. A walking encyclopedia on the arts and a specialist on nadaswaram and on the devadasis, Sundaram has a packed calendar.

He was recognized by scholar Devesh at the release of a new book on Bharatanatyam early this month.

He was given a title by a sabha.

He has presented a few lec-dems.

And he has also made time to supervise the music for a Tamil- Malayalam film for which he is the music director and has composed a few songs.

This will be Sundaram’s second film project and he says the movie is very good.

You can reach him at 94433 39594.

New faces in the Academy team

Writer-historian V. Sriram has been co-opted to be part of the Executive Committee of The Music Academy.

What role does he want to play?

In his own words, Sriram states -

I feel privileged to be a part of the Academy's committee though I also feel sad that it was owing to the passing of S V Ramaswami who was a good friend, that a vacancy arose in the first place.

To me, the Academy has always been an iconic institution and I was always fascinated by its history and heritage- an 84 year-old unbroken tradition.

It was great fun working on its history last year. I realised that it was built up by some great sacrifices by various individuals who had a vision.

My role is that of a Committee Member. I hope to take an active part in the lec-dem sessions in the morning and also be of assistance to Dr Pappu Venugopala Rao in matters concerning the library, the journal and other academic activities.

Former Chief Election Commissioner, V. Gopalaswami has also been co opted into the Academy team but higher in the pecking order.
