Web site on 'December season' launched

A group of youngsters led by Carnatic vocalist Rithvik Raja have launched a web site for the 'season'.

The URL is - www.thedecemberseason.com

Raja says this is a free support website that offers concert schedules, transport rates, personalized calendars, sabha venue directions, and recommendations for accommodation and restaurants, to aid rasikas, artistes, students and connoisseurs of music to get a comprehensive view of the December Kutcheri Season.

Feedback is invited by the group to improve it.

November Indicators

Here are two indicators of Season 2009 as November draws to a close.

The walls and partitions of Narada Gana Sabha's auditorium in Alwarpet sport this simple note - SEASON TICKETS SOLD OUT.

The NGS managers are fast at their job. They have select rasikas from abroad who call at the right time and get their tickets blocked. Members are quick to make their reservations.

If this development is any indicator, then season tickets seem to be hot property.

But check out with Hotel Woodlands, that venerable haunt of the diehard rasika who is assured of traditional food and cosy lodging close to the hub of the action, and the managers say that bookings are slow and steady for December.

Has the recession impacted the 'season'?

Yes and no.

You will get a better 'feel' when the season rolls out in December.
