On the eve of the 'season', comes a special event.

Airtel & Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel have organized the Parellel Music Fest 2009 on 3rd December at the Mini Hall, Music Academy, Chennai.

The event is held on the occasion of World Disability Day The program commences at 4 pm.

The event showcases the talents of accomplished differently abled artists. Each year, the Sangita Kalanidi designate for the year inaugurates this music function.

Sangita Kalanidhi designate for 2009, the Thavil maestro Valyapatti Subramaniam will be the guest of honor. The mridngam maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman is chief guest. Airtel is the sponsor

Hotel, rasikas host daylong kutcheris

The Maris Music Mela is a new musical outfit which offers its service during the December Music Season. It has been conceived and delivered to you as a joint effort with Hotel Maris, Chennai (Madras). The third session opens this year.

The Mela has been pioneered by a group of musicians and music lovers wishing to bring together a wonderful mix between emerging and established talent, with a fair amount of emphasis on promoting young, promising talent, both from within and outside India.

This third session which is being held on Friday, 25 December 2009 will, in addition to promoting budding talent, feature the vocal concert of Pattabhirama Pandit (disciple of K.V. Narayanaswamy) and a violin duet by two well-known music maestros who have earned outstanding credit for themselves both in India and abroad: Mysore M. Nagaraj and Dr. M. Manjunath.

Pattabhirama Pandit and the Mysore Brothers will be performing in the morning and evening, respectively.

The concerts are being held on a complimentary basis and all are welcome. Catering facilities have also been arranged at the concert venue.

Saint Thiagaraja Aradhana in Thiruvaiyaru; Jan 2010

The 2010 aradhana will begin on Jan.2 and go on till Jan.6. Bahula panchami falls on Jan.5, the day the saint composer is said to have attained mukti. On that day, artistes join in to sing the famed Pancharatna kritis at the samadhi in the morning.

Concerts, as tributes are held from 7 am to late at night on all the days.

'Sampradaya' to hosts interaction between masters and rasikas, musicians

Sampradaya in Chennai focuses on documentation of everything to do with music, especially Carnatic music.

Ever since T. M. Krishna took charge of it, it has floated an event called Samvada and its goal is to create a public forum where the great masters share with students, other musicians and the art lovers their musical journey.

In order to make the conversation focused, in depth and revealing the hosts invite some of the top musicians of today to hold the conversation with these masters. There is also an interactive event with the audience.

The Samvada series during the December season is as follows and is open to all:
25th December - Musicians with Critics 26th December - Musicians with Rasikas Venue: Sri Parvathi Hall, Eldams Road, Alwarpet
