Music rains at the KFI Gardens

Music rains at the KFI Gardens

The quiet KFI campus on Greenways Road, R.A. Puram became lively with rasikas gathering in for a different concert on the Christmas eve, Dec. 24.

Rasikas sat inside the hall, on the corridors and some on the steps leading to the hall and the music just floated in the air.

Anil Srinivasan, classical pianist, Lalgudi G. J. R. Krishnan, Carnatic violinist and B. S. Purushothaman, kanjira artiste presented a blend of melody and rhythm.

They called the concert - 'Garden in the rain'.

The team began with a tribute to M.M. Dhandapani Desikar for his centenary is being celebrated this year, with the song 'Arula Vendum thaye' in the raga Saramti. The neelambari raga followed this composition and the piano slipped in comfortable with the violin. For the Meera Bhajan, Purushothaman's kanjira was innovatively soothing.

Then came the rains. In the form of raga Amruthavashini. The pianist and the violinist brought out the flavour of the raga and Sudhamayi kriti of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar.

The Kapi was served through the Purandaradasa Kriti 'jagadodharana'. The tillana in Maand composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman brought the curtain down.

Will there be another such event this season? Anil and Krishnan are thinking!
