 Kalakshetra to host 17 shows: Dec.22 to Jan.3

Sangeeth Natya Utsav inaugurated

This year's 'season' began with the inauguration of the music and dance festival of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Chennai Kendra on Nov. 24.

Vocalist and percussionist T. V. Gopalakrishnan presented an ensemble along with his group 'Madhuradhwani' on the inaugural day.

The festival will go on till Dec. 20.

Kalakshetra to host 17 shows: Dec.22 to Jan.3

The annual December Season festival hosted by Kalakshetra will start on Dec.22 and run till January 3, 2008.
All 17 shows will be held at the Bharata Kalakshetra Auditorium ( in south Chennai) and they are ticketed.

There will also be a special, daylong event for children.

The opening show on Dec.22 evening is by Nrityagram dancers Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy,

On Dec.23, at 6 pm is P. Praveen Kumar's Bharatanatyam performance followed by a Hindustani voical concert by Ulhas Kashalkar ( 7.15 pm).

On Dec.24, a Kathakali show titled 'Nalacharitam' features artistes Sadanam Balakrishnan, Madavur Vasudevan Nair and the Kalakshetra Repertory.

The Christmas day (Dec.25) event is dedicated to children. Titled 'Giligilippu', this event, from 10 am to 5 pm, invites children in the age group 6 to 15 years to take part in fun events on art and aesthetics. Kalakshetra and Aseema Trust are presenting this event.

On Dec.26, at 6.30 pm, the Kalakshetra Repertory present ' 'Masquerade: Man in the Iron Mask', a dance theatre narrative of a Alexander Dumas story translated by Prof. Raghuraman. This show is is directed by Sheejit Krishna.

The same show will be staged again on January 1, at 6.30 pm.

On Dec.27, 6.30 pm, the Kalakshetra artistes present 'Kutrala Kuravanji', a dance drama, with singing by K. Rama Rao and K. Lakshman.

On Dec.28, 6.30 pm, the Kalakshetra artistes present another dance drama, 'Shyama', sung by vidwan Seetarama Sarma.

On Dec.29, there is a double bill.
At 6 pm, Mythili Prakash presents a Bharatanatyam recital and at 7.15 pm, vidwan Prof. T. N. Krishnan presents a violin recital.

On Dec.30, there is another double bill - at 5.30 pm, the celebrated and unique Nangiar Koothu of Kerala comes alive with 'Kamsavadham' by Kapila and at 7 pm, is a Mohiniattam performance by the well known artiste, Kalamandalam Kshemavathy.

On Dec.31, at 6 pm, Lavanya Ananth presents a Bharatanatyam recital and at 7.15 pm, Rama Ravi presents a Carnatic vocal concert.

On January 2, the Pondicherry (Puducherry)-based theatre person Veenapani Chawla presents 'Ganapati', a theatre production of her group 'Adiskhakti'.

The finale features dancer Srikanth in a Bharatanatyam recital at 6 pm followed a Carnatic vocal recital by Sanjay Subrahmaniam at 7.15 pm.

Tickets for all these shows are sold at the Kalakshetra office from Dec.11 onwards.
