The Singapore troupe
You cannot miss Singapore based dancer and teacher Girish Panickker at dance shows.
Long, flowing hair, flowing garments and demonstrative gestures that can stun onlookers.
Girish, who has been teaching at SIFAS in Singapore for 13 years now, never misses out on the ‘season’.
His friend, Chennai-based guru Jayanthi Subramaniam, lends a hand as he sets up recitals for himself and some of the dance students.
This year, Dhanya, Arivazhagan, Anupama and Meenakshi flew down too and have performed here and there.
So has Girish. He even got a prize at Krishna Gana Sabha.
On January 10, Girish will specially perform for Vyjayanthimala Bali at her house in Alwarpet.
This show is open to invited guests. “We love her dance and I try and perform at her place when she is free,” says Girish.
His contact number is 94447 16101
Mela at Kalakshetra campus
Giligillipu.
That was what the arts camp at Kalakshetra was called.
Held on Christmas day, jointly by Kalakshetra and The Aseema Trust, it drew more than 200 children ( yes, the camp was meant only for children) and offered them a variety of arts experiences.
