Just Violins

The Lalgudi Trust and Krutagnya are hosting a dawn to rush violin concert series - Violin Vaibhavam - on January 4 at Sastri Hall, Luz. Bright young violinists who learn under GJR Krishnan, GJR Vijayalakshmi, Anuradha Sridhar and other gurus will perform. Open to all. Starts at 9 a.m.

The skies were overcast, the Marina looked a ghostly blue-black and LED lights of pavement-side bunk shops told us were in Park Town (those who do not know their city too well will have to be told that Park Town is an area around the High Court in north Madras.)

60 years of music / time to honour

A simple felicitation was held at the small hall at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha on Sunday evening for senior vocalist and guru, Alamelu Mani. It was to mark her 60years in the Carnatic music field. She later presented a concert.

One more music fest

One more music fest opens on Dec.19 evening at MGR Janaki College in R. A. Puram (near the Adyar river), Chennai. It is hosted by Valayapatti Kaashyap Naadhalaya. After the awards event, Abhishek Raghuram performs.

Tribute to Mandolin Srinivas

Tchaikovsky Music Club of Russian Center for Science and Culture is paying tribute to the late mandolin legend U. Srinivas by organising a series of events from Dec 14 - 18.

R. R. Sabha to honour Flautist N. Ramani

Rasika Ranjani Sabha will confer the title of "Kala Ratna" on flute vidwan Dr. N. Ramani at a function to be held on Dec 1.

This sabha hosts three festivals

Here is one sabha which presents over 150 concerts for the season. Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha curates three music festivals which run from early December to late January. Don't ask us how this is done.

Stage of differently abled musicians

Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel has for the past 9 years conducting the Parallel Music Fest in December coinciding with the World Disability Day, showcasing the classical music talents of the differently abled musicians.
