T. M. Krishna's concert after the sadas at The Music Academy on New Year's evening created more buzz than the formal sadas - a rare development is recent times at this place.
.Krishna has been drawing a large audience for what were open to all concerts, mostly in the mornings and the Academy chose to schedule it for the last evening.
The award of the birudhu and citation to Trichur V Ramachandran, the address by chief guest Justice V Ramasubramaniam of the Madras High Court, and the awards to senior artistes - violinist T Rukmini and Tiruchi J Venkataram got the Sangita Acharya award while the TTK Awards were given to senior mridangist Mullapudi Sriramamurthy and audio engineer K S Raghunathan alias HMV Raghunathan - were all very proper.
Trichur Ramachandran made a short, simple speech - of thanks and acknowledgement. Ravi Kiran felicitated him - recalling how he has remained a sincere and true sishya of his guru, has retained classicism and continues to learn.
There were also prizes for artistes who had been judged excellent in their December Season concerts at the Academy - from the junior to the senior level.
The buzz though was on the sidelines as rasikas kept filing in for the T M Krishna concert later that evening.
Those who had tickets queued outside while others took the lift to the 2nd floor to grab the free seats there. The rest had to sit in the mini hall for a TV-fed cast of the TMK recital.
