The annual dance fest of classical and folk at the seaside heritage town of Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) was launched on Wednesday by state ministers.
.A state-funded and managed show, recitals are held on a stage that overlooks the famed Shore Temple complex said to have been built in 700 AD. Previously, the stage was set in front of Arjuna’s Penance this town is a World Heritage Site known for sculptural works of the great Pallavas.
Two recitals are held every evening till January 26 and the troupes are from Tamil Nadu and across India. This is a ticketed show and the bus ride from the city to this seaside town should take 2 hours (distance is about 55 kms).
