Women duo win Music Quiz

It may have been a small community, not even hard core quizzers but when the 2012 edition of the KutcheriBuzz Carnatic Music Quiz rolled on Christmas morning, there were lots of young people at the hall at Lady Sivaswamy Girls School, Mylapore.
Quiz Master R. Revathi chose to make this a light quiz, throwing in some googlies on a day when India and Pakistan were to play a T20 match in Bengaluru.
The prelims tested the teams, about 40 of them with 20 questions and six teams booked themselves a place in the finals.
Revathi chose to make do with six rounds of questions but themed it in the kutcheri format - with an enjoyable and teasing set of pictures of kutcheris in the 50s and 60s to identify all lead artistes and for another round, played snatches of a song to elicit the answers.
Perhaps this quiz should have been widely publicized among music schools and gurus - the kids would have enjoyed the challenge.
The winners were two women - S Kameswari from R A Puram and M, Kowsalya from Mandaveli, Chennai.
C. Ramganesh and Hariram R stood second and S. Manikandan and Vikram stood third.
The rolling trophy went to the winners. They also got a bag of prizes. The rest got goodies, albums and gifts.
The Quiz was supported by Kosmik Music, Saptaswara Musicals and Sruti magazine.
These companies shared albums, gift vouchers, magazines and subscriptions.
