There is a completely different kind of atmosphere which reigns at the festival at Kalakshetra.
And for all those who are regulars here, the reasons are obvious - the verdant, quiet campus, the welcoming volunteers and the quality of the artistes and their shows and the simple earthen setting.
.The 60th annual Art Fest which was launched on December 21 evening by India's Vice-president Hamid Ansari carried with it the signature of the changing course at Kalakshetra.
Present at this event was Gopalkrishna Gandhi, chairman of Kalakshetra Foundation.
That evening's dance drama, Gita Govindam one of the early productions of founder Rukmini Devi Arundale has been refreshed over recent time. It was show open only to invitees that evening, invitees having to go through the security check at many points.
The 'Shakuntalam' dance drama on Dec.29 evening and has also been refreshed.
The Kumudini Lakhia repertory presents its production on Dec.28, Sudha Ragunathan sings the next evening and T V Sankaranarayan's concert on Dec.31 will bring the fest to a close.

A sale of locally produced textiles is also on on this campus. Visitors can also visit the Rukmini Museum and buy books produced here.
