The German Hall in T. Nagar is a well designed auditorium but it survives in the past and is still well used.
It is also one of the many venues for music festivals during the music season.
.The Indian Fine Arts Society, now celebrating its 80th year in the propagation of the arts will hold its December season fest here.
Over recent times, the audiences here have dropped - much to do with the demographics and changing face of neighbourhoods.
In a T. Nagar now more known for shopping and commercial blocks and less a habitation of a people which enjoyed great music and the men and women who created it, this zone of T. Nagar looks forlorn after dusk.
Yet, IFAS holds steadfast. On December 17, it launches the fest and will decorate the great violinist M S Gopalakrishnan and dance teacher and writer Nandini Ramani. A dance recital follows.
IFAS' calendar is packed with the best artistes you can ask for - from Mandolin Srinivas to K J Yesudoss. It has devotional concerts to begin the day and lec-dems every morning.
The big concerts are in the evening. The music fest ends on Jan.2, 2013 and a few dance recitals follow.
The German Hall may not be a glam venue. But its quietness best suits music. Call the IFAS office at 91-44-2815 4360.
