My obsession today is the music and dance and classical arts campus called Bhaaskara that is coming up in the town of Payyanur in Kerala.
My mother and I stayed in Cleveland for a week. As you may be aware, we were on a long US tour and were also invited to the famous aradhana.
It was with mixed feelings that we, the senior students of Abinaya Natyalaya (Madras), Sangeetha Kabilan, Kayalvizhi Kabilan, Aparna Lakshmanan, Sandya Chandran, Mathura Viswanathan, Archana Viswanathan, Divya Umakanth, Jayanthi Vivek and myself, Nrithya Jagannathan, set out with our guru Kalaimammani Krishna Kumari Narendran, on our trip to the USA. We were accompanied by Murugan of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, who was to manage the stage, lights and the sound.
I have to begin this column by wishing you all a very Happy New Year. For even as I performed during the season in December 1999 the onset of the Millennium was widely evidenced and reflected in every sabha in every nook and corner of musical activity.
